I’ve provided everything you need in this course—from CPT codes to report templates—to help you start conducting professional adult ADHD evaluations with confidence. Below are answers to some common questions. If you have others, contact me directly by email or schedule a live Zoom consultation to discuss.
Does insurance pay for adult ADHD evaluations?
Yes. Most major insurance plans reimburse for adult ADHD evaluations using the CPT codes outlined in the Billing Insurance chapter. I personally use Blue Cross Blue Shield, which has been fast and consistent. Reimbursement is based on CPT coding and may vary slightly by plan or region.
How much can I earn from adult ADHD evaluations?
Blue Cross Blue Shield currently reimburses approximately $625 per completed evaluation, and my private pay rate is $975. Conducting just three evaluations per week can increase your annual income by $97,000 or more. See the Billing Insurance chapter for details.
How long does an adult ADHD evaluation take?
I schedule three hours for the office visit, including testing, questionnaires, and interviews. You’ll have everything needed to provide diagnostic feedback by the end of that session. Report preparation typically takes one to two additional hours. See the Office Visit Protocol in the Forms and Protocols section of the manual.
Do I need to schedule a separate feedback session?
No. You can review test results, diagnostic criteria, and recommendations with your client by the end of the initial visit. Afterward, complete the written report and email it to the client. You’ll still be available for questions or follow-up support as needed.
What do the psychometric tests look like?
You’ll need to purchase the Barkley Rating Scales to view test items. See the chapters Courses, Books, and Tests and Barkley Rating Scales for details. For the neurocognitive battery, refer to the CNS Vital Signs chapters to review interpretive report samples.
How long will it take before I can conduct my first evaluation?
With this system, you can confidently complete your first evaluation within 30 days or less by following the 30-Day Plan. If you have a background in ADHD and already conduct psychological evaluations, you may use the Quick Start option to accelerate the process. I recommend eventually reviewing the entire manual before identifying yourself as a specialist.
How long is the report?
The Adult ADHD Specialist report is typically 15 pages, combining standardized sections with client-specific findings. Once you’re familiar with the template, report writing usually takes one to two hours or less. See Basic Report Sample, Report Writing Overview, and Report Preparation chapters for guidance.
How long is the manual?
The complete manual is nearly 300 pages across 30 chapters, organized by four steps: Framework, Skill Building, Clinical Decision-Making, and Report Writing. It also includes dedicated sections for Forms and Protocols and Quick-Reference Tools.
Why is this course restricted to licensed psychologists?
Because this system is built for psychologists. My training assumes competence in psychometric testing, diagnostic formulation, and report writing—all within the psychologist’s professional domain. Psychiatrists and physicians also expect psychologists to conduct these evaluations. In time, I may adapt the system for other disciplines.
Can this evaluation be conducted remotely?
At this time, the evaluation is designed to be office-based. While the course covers remote methods and these may be explored in the future, in-person assessment allows for stronger rapport, direct test observation, and more defensible clinical decision-making. For comprehensive adult ADHD evaluations, face-to-face assessment remains the most appropriate approach.
